SOJOURN TAX

On 15th December Croatian Parliament has brought the new law regarding the Sojourn tax. According to the old law the charterers were paying the sojourn tax in the marinas outside the base marina when paying for the mooring fee, it was not included in the mooring fee but it was specified separately and paid per person per night. In the new law it is changed in the way that charterers need to pay the sojourn tax directly to the charter companies in the starting/base marina for each overnight stay on the chartered vessel. The money raised from sojourn tax is not an income of the charter company but the charter company needs to transfer that money to the accounts of the Croatian Chamber of Tourism, its branch office in the city/place where the starting marina is. The Croatian Chamber of Tourism uses the money for promotion of Croatian tourism and for improving the conditions of the tourist stay in the tourist localities.

The sojourn tax for tourists on the charter vessels amounts 7 Kuna per person per night (cca. 0.93€).
Exempt to paying tourist tax on charter vessels are:

  • children up to the age of 12
  • people with 70% and more disability  with one escort
